Sweet dreams and energetic days, isn’t that the way you would want to sleep through the night and begin every morning? Yes, please. Then for some people this is going to change their lives.
The Lunoa by Nightbalance is a helpful bedpartner for those who are struggling with POSA. The what now? POSA stands for Positional Obstructive Sleep Apnea. It basically means you wake up almost as tired as you were when going to sleep the night before. It’s being caused by an obstruction that prevents you from breathing properly while one lays on his or her back during their sleep. And we all now what a lack of a good nights rest can do to us. So if you can prevent being a daytime zombie, you might want to look into this. So how can this problem be solved?
Well, simply don’t sleep on your back. But as easy as that might sound, controlling your sleeping position isn’t really something evolution thought was a necessity to our survival. That’s why Lunoa is a tool that can help you to sleep in a different position during bedtime. How does it work? Lunoa is a little device that tracks your sleeping position and when it notices you’re lying on your back it delivers gentle vibrations that makes you change positions. Helpful and life changing. And if our studio can contribute in any way, we definitely will do so.

Commercial
NightBalance wanted a commercial showcasing the Lunoa in a clean setting with a familiar ambience that fitted the Lunoa brand. So they chose to do the shoot in an abstract but homely bedroom setting where the Lunoa would show its magic and in which an actor and actress would lead the story through movement and expression.

Introduction
To playfully tease the audience and to show off the design of the device itself NightBalance decided on an animated macro shot introduction of the Lunoa (which we created) that would start off the commercial and get viewers acquinted with the product’s aesthetic.

The approach
–
We were approached by the client to make a stylistic and representative introduction of their Lunoa product. So we first started gathering the information we needed. The idea behind the intro, the message it should send and the kind of look and feel they were after. One specific element we needed to focus on were the materials. We needed to realistically match the CMF with the ones of the original device. Getting the real product in-house wasn’t possible at the time so we looked closely at photo references and the different lighting situations the pictures were took. After that we started building the shaders and we tested them in different lighting situations to see if the would hold up, making sure reflections, colors and qualities like roughness and transparency would transfer to the CG model adequately. When that part of the process was finished we took up camera movement and lighting.
The final result is simplistic but elegant, providing that bit of suspense the commercial needed.
